True Ella - Viyella inspired brushed cotton shirting
True Ela,
This is an excellent version of a Viyella shirting fabric. A world famous fabric, the history of Viyella is well documented because it was the first branded fabric in the world. A glorious cloth. In fact, it was manufacturedjust down the road from here in my local village of Barrowford at the Courthalds factory. (It is one of the reasons I ended up in textiles, but that is a story for another time). The site is now a housing estate.
The original Viyella was woven in 55% Merino wool and 45% cotton. But, as is the way with many fabrics now, this is far too expensive to produce for the mainstream. So a modern Viyella fabric was born as an 80/20 cotton/wool mix.
So, what has this to do with what we are selling here? This is a copy of a modern Viyella shirting. An 80% cotton 20% wool brushed twill shirting fabric. A lightweight shirting that will keep you warm when it’s cool and cool when it’s warm. We have it in 7 colours; royal blue, pale blue, Pale pink, Ivory, blush and forest green.
